Preparing For Gallery Representation and Shows

Course Description:

In this class we will discuss how to properly and professionally prepare your art for display. We will discuss framing options, quality of framing materials, hanging hardware, paperwork and more.

You will learn:

     - why presentation matters

     - conservation quality- what it is and when/why to use it

     - why matting or glass spacers are important

     - how to properly wire and hang your work, and the proper hardware needed

     - alternative options for displaying certain types of works (photos/prints, pastels, canvas)

     - the little things that drive curators nuts- CLEANING/DUSTING 

     - paper work- image list, artist statement, logistics  

     - model and property releases

Materials:

Bring a canvas or a frame to wire.

Bio:

     Cas Foste has been a professional in the business of art as a curator, custom framer and artist. Currently, she owns Gallery Raw Studios and Cas Foste Photography showcasing her art and photography in her studio at Cottonwood Center for the Arts, Studio 109. Her photography focuses on portraiture and working with models, flowers and she photographs most subjects to some degree. Foste is also the assistant manager and curator at Academy Art & Frame Co. Her dedication to conservation framing and working with emerging artists to teach, encourage and exhibit has made her a prominent figure in the Colorado Springs art arena, especially for artists in northern Colorado Springs.

     Foste has a Bachelors of Fine Arts (BFA) with Emphasis in Photography and Printmaking.  She has been working as a professional in the community for over ten years.
